The faculty in this course consists of six paediatricians coming from Spain, UK and Iceland. All faculty members teaching in the course are active ESPID members and the course was advertised under the ESPID logo. All faculty members are paediatric infectious diseases / immunology consultants, all with experience in clinical work, research, education and teaching.
Ásgeir studied paediatrics and paediatric immunology in The Netherlands. He is
professor of paediatrics at The University of Iceland and chair and faculty
chairman at The Children’s Hospital Iceland. His main interests are
immunodeficiencies, infections and vaccinations.
Sanjay trained in Paediatric infectious diseases and immunology in London and
Newcastle. He is currently a Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and
Immunology at Southampton Children’s Hospital, UK. His research interests
are antibiotic stewardship and out-patient parenteral antibiotic therapy.
Aubrey is Head of Section of Paediatric Infectious Disease at Imperial College London, and Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His particular areas of interest include malaria and diagnostics for infectious diseases in Africa.
Valtýr studied paediatrics and paediatric infectious diseases and immunology in Utrecht in The Netherlands and in Bristol, UK. His main research interests are in respiratory tract infections and vaccine preventable diseases, including the interaction between respiratory viruses and bacterial colonisation/transmission. Valtýr currently works as a consultant in paediatric infectious diseases and is the programme director of a paediatric training programme at the Children´s Hospital Iceland.
(Paediatric Infectious Diseases Unit, Hospital 12 de Octubre) Pablo is Associated Professor at Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, Spain. His main research interests focus on paediatric HIV, community-associated S. aureus infections and congenital CMV infection.
Dr Jethro Herberg is a Reader and Honorary Consultant in in Paediatric Infectious Disease at Imperial College London. His interests include the development of new diagnostic tests for children with infectious and inflammatory conditions, and understanding the genetic basis of predisposition to infection. Current projects include DIAMONDS (www.diamonds2020.eu), which is developing and piloting the use of new host transcript-based diagnostic tests.
